Kathleen Forrest MA, LCSW
Have you experienced an event or events in your life that have been overwhelming, challenging to process, or difficult to move on from?
I believe trauma is a spectrum and that most people have experienced some degree of trauma in their life. With this, I believe that other issues such as depression, anxiety, lack of coping skills, self-esteem/worth issues, grief, issues in identity, and lack of self-compassion--among other challenges often develop.
I work with a diverse client base experiencing a broad range of struggles. I strive to practice cultural sensitivity and identity sensitivity related to the way each individual shows up to the world and their therapeutic journey. I attempt to create a safe space and therapeutic relationship based on trust, honesty, empathy, and non-judgement that allows clients to process the greatest difficulties life has to offer.
I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Georgia with a focus in treatment of trauma. I am passionate about working with individuals who have experienced any degree of trauma and in supporting and assisting them to feel safer in the world, process negative beliefs, and develop effective means of coping through and developing after such traumas. I engage with clients with a holistic approach valuing the relationship between mind and body as necessary partners for healing. We are complex people and each of us have challenging parts of ourselves that are difficult to navigate and show up as the result of painful experiences and present in everyday life. I believe counseling is the process of integrating, reconnecting, and returning to peace within oneself.
You have already taken the brave first step of seeking a counselor. I would be honored to have the privilege to work with you!
